The sketchbook of Damien Hirst
“Drawings” by Damien Hirst is a volume designed as a sketchbook, bound in CABRA leather fibre material and fitted with a bright orange elastic band. The special feature is the print on the book cover, because for 0.3 mm thick leather fibre material, we previously recommended screen printing, blind embossing, or hot foil stamping. The printing company Vogl proved that it was also possible to use offset printing, or more precisely, the LE-UV offset printing process. After four passes through the printing press, an impressive cover design was created. Handwritten adhesive strips are simulated, which appear to be stuck on the spine and cover. The elaborately produced book was published by Hirmer Verlag to accompany the exhibition at the Albertina Museum in Vienna. It contains drawings and sketches that the artist has been producing since the 1980s in preparation for his works.
