Ewald Mataré between colours and materials
The catalogue of works of Sabine Maja Schilling was revised by the author and Guido de Werd for this two-volume work entitled "Ewald Mataré. Das plastische Werk". The two volumes, which were published by the Freundeskreis Museum Kurhaus and Koekkoek-Haus Kleve e.V. and Wienand Verlag, contain approximately 1,300 illustrations on 862 pages. The design by studio tino graß plays with materials and colours. The cover features a black-and-white illustration of one of Mataré's sculptures in the centre. The two images were printed on paper, which is laid over two coloured fabric strips: on the left side, the cotton fabric NATURELLE COULEUR in stahlblau. On the right-hand side of the cover, it is NATURELLE COULEUR in kirschblüte, and on the back of the book, NATURELLE COULEUR in white alabaster, printed in brown over the entire surface. The fabrics thus form a tactile frame for the images of the sculptures. The fabric in stahlblau was also chosen for the cover of the slipcase. Both the spines of the book and the slipcase were embossed with white hot foil. NATURELLE COULEUR is a pleasantly soft cotton fabric made from thick yarns.
